What a hard life! Then we got our butts moving and moved our way to the beach. We walked all the up Sunset Beach) and even found our own private mini stip of beach. We spent the entire afternoon there, sun bathing and taking dips in the (bath temperature) water to try and keep cool.
Holy cow was it ever hot today! I don't think we have ever experienced heat like this, not even Mexico in July! LOVING the heat and sunshine though!
Once we got back from our walk around 4 PM, we took it easy. Rehydrated and had some snacks. Had a little ciesta since we knew we would be up late with the FMP. Got ready in our neon outfits!
We met Monique and Brian (couple from Chicago) for dinner and to go to the FMP together. We walked ten minutes to the opposite side of Haad Rin (Sunrise Beaxh) and ate at "Hollyfood Planet." We got some buckets of drinks and then went to get our bodies painted!
I had peacock feathers "professionally" painted up my arm! Everyone knows I love peacocks and it also happens to be Thailand's national animal (in addition to the elephant)!
The FMP cost us $100 baht to get in per person (about $3 Canadian). Once you were in there were different bars playing different types of music throughout the beach. It was a sight to see for sure!
Things I liked about the FMP:
- we went with another couple so we felt safer (more people to watch out for eachother)
- great music
- lots of dancing (even on picnic tables - friends know I love a good picnic table dance lol)
- incredible scenery (beach party of roughly 30,000 people surrounded by mountains and clear water, on a white sandy beach)
- you dress in neon and paint your bodies (think face painting when you were a kid but more fun because your an adult, it's acceptable, and it's neon)
Things that were a little sketchy about the FMP:
- people seemed to not have a lot of regard for one another (people would throw beer bottles on the ground. You have to wear closed toed shoes on the beach for that reason. Also someone through a beer bottle out when we were dancing and it hit Jake's leg. Luckily it didn't break and all was well, it was just irritating that it could have been worse)
- lots of drugs, and we are not into that, also it's illegal in Thailand so those people are taking a big risk (we have seen "Locked Up Abroad" episodes of people getting arrested and put in Thai jails for things like this
- we were worried about getting roofied. For this reason, we never really relaxed
- people partied wayyyyy to hard. There were people passed out everywhere... Literally lying on the beach where people could walk on them, unless they were in the designated "sleeping area" which is sketchy enough as it is
After a few hours at the FMP, we wondered our way back to Coral Bungalows. We stopped at a 7/11 to get snacks and a few more drinks. We sat on the edge of our Sunset Beach and enjoyed another hour of each others company! At about 5:30 AM we decided to call it quits. While this was early (most people party until the sun comes up and even past that), Jake and I were getting picked up at 11 AM the next morning to fly to Phuket. We said our goodbyes to the couple we were hanging out with and went to bed. Brian and Monique were a great couple and we hope to hang out with them again back home!
This was our view at the end of the night:
Overall, the FMP was a blast! I would recommend anyone come and see it once in their life! You just need to be extremely cautious and all will be well!
