Day 10: Koh Samui, Koh Phagnan, & Coral Bungalows Pool Party

This morning was our last morning in Chiang Mai before heading south to the islands! We enjoyed a big breakfast at the guesthouse next to ours in order to fuel up for the shenanigans that were about to begin on the islands!

We took a cab to the airport instead of taking a normal tuk tuk since with Songkran in full force, we would have got soaked along with all our belongings! Our guesthouse was predicting bad traffic because of the holiday but it wasn't bad at all so we got to the airport way too early! We got there at 9 AM with a 3.5 hour wait until our flight to Koh Samui.

So we wasted time...

First with coffee...

... And then with beer... Much more fun!

We met another couple from Germany so we chatted with them to pass more time. Our flight was delayed until 12:55 (about 1/2 hour behind schedule). They were also planning to go to the full moon party (FMP) so we agreed to meet up after the flight to share transportation form the airport to the ferry in Koh Samui. We took a cab to the ferry dock where we boarded a 50 minute ferry ride to Haad Rin Pier on Koh Phagnan. The weather was gorgeous and the islands were breathtaking! We soaked up the sun by sitting on the edge of the ferry.

From there we took a cab/tuk tuk to Coral Bungalow where we were staying for the next two nights. We had a small room with two beds (hard as rocks), a bathroom, and A/C. The room was definately the sketchiest room of our trip, which we were expecting. All the rooms on Koh Phagnan are pretty expensive, unless you are very wealthy! The room was still better than camping so we got over being spoiled little brats and enjoyed ourselves!

We took a quick walk into town (10 min walk) to shop for some bright neon outfits for the FMP the next night. We each got some bright tank tops that will be sure to go well with the body paint.

Coral Bungalows is famous for their pool parties for five nights before the FMP. It was actually pretty quiet but we ended up meeting another married couple (Bryan and Monique) from Chicago and spent the evening enjoying buckets of drinks with them.

Aroun 2:30 AM, us old folks decided to hit the hay so we would be rested for the FMP the next day!
